ThisDay

Privacy Policy

Last updated August 31, 2026

ThisDay has no servers, no account and no analytics. Everything you put into it stays on your device and, if you turn on sync, in your own iCloud account. Akila Studio never receives it and cannot read it.

Who this policy is from

ThisDay is made by Akila Studio. In this policy, “we” means Akila Studio and “the app” means ThisDay for iPhone, iPad and Mac. You can reach a person at hello@akilastudio.com.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not operate a backend for ThisDay, so there is nowhere for your data to arrive. We collect no personal information, no usage analytics, no crash telemetry, no advertising identifiers and no device identifiers.

We do not know how many tasks you have, what your habits are, whether you opened the app today, or that you exist.

Where your data lives

On your device. That includes your tasks, events, notes, voice recordings, habits, photos in Moments and every setting you change.

If you enable iCloud sync, that data is also stored in your personal iCloud account so it can reach your other devices. It travels between your devices through Apple’s CloudKit, in a container tied to your Apple Account. It is your storage, governed by Apple’s privacy policy, and we have no access to it. Turning sync off keeps everything on the one device.

Health data

This section exists because health information deserves to be spelled out rather than summarised.

Permissions the app asks for

Each is requested at the moment it is needed, never at launch, and the app keeps working without any of them.

Apple Health
To check whether a habit you pointed at Health is complete: steps, exercise minutes, active energy, sleep, the Watch’s activity rings, and workout types. Read-only. ThisDay never writes to Health.
Calendars
To show your existing events inside your day, and to write an event back to your calendar if you ask it to. Only the calendars you select in Settings.
Apple Reminders
To show the Reminders lists you select inside your day, and — only while you switch that on — to write the tasks you make in ThisDay out as reminders. Reminders it did not create are never edited, completed or deleted.
Microphone
To record voice notes. Recordings are saved on your device.
Speech recognition
To turn a voice note into a task, note or moment when you ask it to. Transcribed on your device by iOS.
Photos
To attach a picture to a day in Moments. Only the photos you choose.
Notifications
To deliver the reminders you set. Scheduled on your device by iOS.
Update checks
To ask the App Store, once a day, whether a newer version of ThisDay is published. This is the only network request ThisDay makes on its own behalf. It sends ThisDay’s own public bundle identifier and nothing about you. Switch it off in Settings › ThisDay.

You can withdraw any permission at any time in the Settings app on your device.

Third parties

ThisDay contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, no attribution SDKs and no tracking of any kind. We do not use App Tracking Transparency because there is nothing to track.

The only third party involved is Apple, and only in the roles you would expect: the App Store distributes the app, and iCloud stores your data on your behalf if you turn sync on.

If ThisDay adds a subscription

Should paid features arrive, purchases are handled by Apple. We would receive the anonymous, aggregated sales reports Apple provides to every developer, and a subscription status for your device. Neither includes your name, your email, or anything you have written in the app. This policy will be updated before any such feature ships.

Your rights

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete on request. You hold everything, and you can act on it directly:

If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection are satisfied by the above, since we are not a controller of any personal data of yours. Residents of California have no personal information for us to disclose or delete, and we do not and will not sell personal information.

Children

ThisDay is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect information from them. Or, for that matter, from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be called out in the app’s release notes. We will never make a change that retroactively reduces the privacy of data already on your device.
