iCloud sync

How ThisDay keeps the same day on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac through your own iCloud, and what to do when a device falls behind.

ThisDay syncs through your own iCloud. There is no account with me and no server of mine in between: your data goes from your device to your iCloud and back to your other devices.

Turning it on

iCloud sync is part of ThisDay Pro. Open Settings and turn on iCloud Sync. Every device signed in to the same Apple Account then shares the same items.

Until it is on, everything stays on the device you are using.

How long it takes

Changes usually move in seconds. The first sync on a new device, especially with many photos, can take a few minutes. While it runs, ThisDay says it is syncing.

Seeing what sync is doing

Tap the iCloud row in Settings. It shows what sync is doing on this device right now.

When a device falls behind

  1. Make sure the device is online and signed in to iCloud.
  2. Close ThisDay from the app switcher and open it again. It starts over from iCloud as it opens.
  3. If it is still stuck, the iCloud row in Settings has Rebuild from iCloud. ThisDay deletes its copy on that device and downloads everything again. Your other devices are not touched.

Ticks and deletes stay put

If you tick or delete something on one device while another is offline, the offline device does not bring it back when it reconnects with its older copy.
