ThisDay on iPhone Duo: one app, three ways to hold it
How I adapted ThisDay to the folding iPhone: a rail in the camera column when closed, a sidebar and two columns when open, nothing on the crease.

ThisDay 3.0 is made for iPhone Duo. Closed, the Day Bar moves into a rail in the camera column so the whole screen is your day. Open flat, the sidebar stays beside the page and item pages spread over two columns. Folded like a book, nothing sits on the crease. It is the same app and the same purchase as on iPhone.
A phone that changes shape
Most apps on a folding phone are a phone app stretched, or a tablet app squeezed. I wanted ThisDay to feel like it was drawn for each shape, because you hold the device differently in each one, and what you want from a planner changes with it.
Closed: the whole width for your day
Closed, iPhone Duo is a phone with a camera column down one side. On other iPhones the Day Bar floats at the bottom of the screen. On iPhone Duo it stands in that column instead: the menu, the + and the day, in a vertical rail beside the page. The day gets the full width and the full height.
Open flat: room to see more
Open, there is room for the sidebar, so it stays beside your day: the Library, your categories, your habits, a tap away. An item's page spreads over two columns, with when it happens and its details on one side and its notes on the other. Notices that would cover the day on a phone arrive as a small toast at the top instead.
Folded like a book
Half folded, the screen bends down the middle. ThisDay keeps every button and line of text off the crease, so nothing important is lost in the fold.
The three poses
| Pose | What ThisDay does |
|---|---|
| Closed | The Day Bar becomes a rail in the camera column, and the day gets the whole screen |
| Open flat | The sidebar stays beside the day, item pages use two columns, notices arrive as a toast |
| Folded like a book | Every button and line of text stays off the crease |
Questions
Do I need to buy ThisDay again for iPhone Duo?
No. ThisDay on iPhone Duo is the iPhone app. It is the same download and the same purchase, ThisDay Pro once for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, with the same data through your own iCloud. There is nothing separate to install and no subscription.
Does ThisDay change when I open the phone?
Yes. Opening iPhone Duo brings in the sidebar beside your day and spreads item pages over two columns; closing it goes back to one column with the rail in the camera column. You do not have to set anything; the layout follows the way you hold it.
Do widgets and Live Activities work on iPhone Duo?
Yes. The widgets for Today, Calendar, Inbox, Habits, Moments, Polaroids and Countdown work on iPhone Duo as on any iPhone, and Live Activities show timed items on the Lock Screen from 15 minutes before they start until they end.
